Ray Boynton

American, (1883–1951)
Ray Scepter Boynton (1883–1951) also known as Raymond Boynton, was an American artist and arts educator, most famous for his mural work in California during the Great Depression where he earned commissions under the Public Works of Art Project (PWAP) and the Treasury Relief Art Project (TRAP). He worked at Coit Tower painting murals with Ralph Stackpole, Bernard Zakheim, and Edith Hamlin (wife of Maynard Dixon). In the mid-1920s he went to Mexico to study with Diego Rivera, and having first hand instruction from Rivera helped Boynton earn the commission for producing the murals in Mills College's Littlefield Concert Hall.
