William George Allan has been active as a painter and printmaker in the Bay Area since the 1960s. Allan has spent extensive periods of time observing the natural world, which serves as the core subject matter for most of his work. During the mid-1970s he created a series of expansive canvases featuring a dramatic Western sky. An artist who extracts the extraordinary from the everyday, Allan prefers to describe himself as a visual poet rather than as a visual artist.
