This early twentieth century photograph by an unknown artist captures El Capitan, one of the most iconic rock formations in Yosemite Valley. At more than 3,000 vertical feet of sheer rock granite, El Capitan was, and continues to be, a beacon for visitors and a muse for photographers. This classic view was also taken by noted landscape photographers Carleton Watkins and Ansel Adams.
