Johann Esaias Nilson

German, (1721–1788)
Johann Esaias Nilson was an ornamental designer and printmaker, known during his lifetime as "the German Watteau." He was a member of an Augsburg dynasty of engravers, and the leading Augsburg artist of his day. Trained as an engraver and miniaturist, he had a major influence on decorative arts, especially ceramics.
