Catherine Yass

British, b. 1963
Catherine Yass is a British photographer working and living in London, England. Yass is known for her experimental techniques of layering negatives and positives that result in the brightly saturated colors that have become a signature of her photographs and short films. Though Yass’ photographs are quite vivid and lively, their subject matter, which are generally interior views of buildings, is not. This contrast very intentionally highlights what Yass views as the absurd vanity of architecture and man-made structures.
