Pae White

American, b. 1963
Pae White is a contemporary American artist that creates large-scale, mixed-media installations concerned with shifting associations of familiar objects. Akin to the practice of artists such as Jessica Stockholder and Sarah Sze, White has said of her work, "For the last several years, my practice has focused on an exploration of the neglected, the forgotten, the spaces between things, even the things between things. I am equally drawn to the temporary, the fleeting, to the ephemera of everyday life." Born in 1963 in Pasadena, CA, she received her BA from Scripps College in 1985 before attending Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1990, and going on to receive her MFA from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 1991. The artist’s work has been met with widespread critical acclaim, and her work was included in the 2009 Venice Biennale and the 2010 Whitney Biennial. In 2004, she was commissioned by the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles to create a series of mobile-like hanging installations which she described as “a waterfall on pause.” White currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
