Herbert H. Sanders

Herbert Sanders was a noted Bay Area ceramicist. He helmed the San Jose State University ceramics program and taught at Alfred University. Sanders also researched and perfected crystalline glazes and earned the first American Ph.D. in ceramics. He was the author of The World of Japanese Ceramics, and his personal collection of mid-20th century Japanese ceramics is part of the Mills College Art Museum collection.
