Nell Baker Coover

American, (1869–1955)
Nell Baker was an American painter and etcher. When Nell was twenty-one, she went to Paris for two years of art studies. Nell returned to Chicago from Europe at the end of 1914, moved to Los Angeles in 1927 and then to Laguna Beach in 1931. She made numerous etchings of the environment of early Laguna Beach: the gossips in front of the Laguna Hotel, children on swings and playing and sitting on rocks by the beach. She enjoyed painting the three century plants near her home with the ocean in the background.
