Eileen Quinlan

American, b. 1972
Photographer Eileen Quinlan uses both traditional and unconventional analog techniques to create her prismatic, reflective images. Taking inspiration from mirrors, modernist painting and product photography, Quinlan constructs her photographs as a means through which to filter perception, contorting each composition with a figurative and literal series of “barriers, screens, and curtains.” Using everything from smoke and steel wool, to glass and chemicals, Quinlan manipulates her negatives, and subject matter, exploring feminist history, visual illusion and the photograph as object.
