Marea Gazzard

Marea Gazzard was an Australian sculptor and ceramicist. Born Marea Medis in Sydney, Australia, Gazzard studied ceramics at the East Sydney Technical College, now the National Art School, from 1953 to 1955. After travelling to Europe, Gazzard enrolled at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London where she studied from 1955 to 1959. During this period she became close to ceramicists Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. Returning to Sydney, Gazzard studied sculpture at the National Art School, with Lyndon Dadswell. In 1960, she opened a studio in Paddington, New South Wales.
