Georges Emile Capon
French,
(1890–1980)
Painter, printmaker, draftsman and illustrator Georges Emile Capon is remembered for his paintings of the Parisian urban landscape, portraits, nudes and still lifes and the posters he designed during World War I. Born in Paris in 1890, Capon was educated at the École Germain-Pilon, a school teaching drawing for applications in the industrial arts. With the onset of World War I he was mobilized into the French Army but also worked with Georges Dorival (1879-1968) to create posters supporting the French war effort; some also inspired the French morale in the fight against tuberculosis.
