Shin Fujihira
Japanese,
(1922–2012)
As a boy, Shin Fujihira grew up in the influence of his father who had established the Fujiira Pottery Company in 1916 in Gojozaka, the main pottery district in the City of Kyoto. Diagnosed with tuberculosis after the outbreak of the Pacific War, Fujihira lived his early adulthood recovering from near death. Through this time, he looked to art to give him strength to heal. For Fujihira, pottery allows for a relase from depression and transformation to appreciate the joys of life.
