Kim Anno

Kim Anno (born December 19, 1958 in Los Angeles, California) is a Japanese-American abstract painter, photographer, and videographer whose artwork explores issues such as climate change, ecology, gender, and the intersection of art and science, with a focus on expanding the function of art in society.
Anno received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from San Francisco State University and her Masters of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1985. In 1996 she began working as an associate professor at California College of the Arts and became chair of the painting department in 2012. Anno additionally attended the Feminist Studio Workshop—a non-accredited, radical women’s art school in Los Angeles founded by Judy Chicago, Sheila Levrand de Bretteville, and Arlene Raven.
Though Anno primarily worked in paint at the beginning of her artistic career, she has since shifted into an interdisciplinary practice, utilising photography, film, and installation.
