Kara Maria

Kara Maria (born 1968 in Binghamton, New York) is an American painter and mixed media artist currently working and living in San Francisco, California. Maria employs elements of contemporary painting, blending geometric shapes and abstract representation, in her artwork to address political issues concerning feminism, environmental conservation, and war.
From Binghamton, New York, Maria moved to San Francisco, California in 1990 to attend the University of California, Berkeley. There she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art Practice in 1993 and her Master’s of Fine Arts in 1998. Maria’s work can be found in the permanent collections of such California museums as the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, the San Jose Museum of Art in San Jose, the di Rosa Preserve in Napa, the de Saisset Museum in Santa Clara, among others.
